Taigamoon The Raw Diet.

The Siberian originally hails from Russia, where they have appeared in artwork and folklore for 1000 years. They’re a naturally developed breed, a working cat from the subarctic forests of Siberia, prized for their hunting prowess and ability to keep mice and rats from the food stores. Siberians have been owned by Soviet presidents and Russian Prime Ministers, but only found their way to the United States in 1990. Siberian Cats today still roam Siberia farms and are still very much on the same fresh and natural meat base hunting or on a diet consisting of homemade beef grind, boiled white fish, raw goat milk, quail eggs and grated raw cheese as topper. Siberian cats require extra care to prevent any potential health issues that may otherwise occur by feeding them a diet consisting of low-grade commercial foods that are unsuited for the breed’s requirements.

Here at Taigamoon Cattery we feed our cats a natural raw diet. Cats are obligate carnivores, this means that they get all the nutrients they need to live and thrive from animal protein sources. Not only is raw food very species-appropriate, it’s also full of moisture and taurine (an essential amino acid that cats cannot manufacture within their bodies). You are what you eat, better nutrition = better health!

All of our kittens go home with a copy of How to care for your cat the way nature intended

Starches and sugars in dry cat foods may lead to health issues such as diabetes, inflammation, arthritis, urinary tract diseases, and obesity. Both the act of processing food and the feeding of grains changes the cat's naturally acidic PH. Beginning with the mouth (causing dental disease) and ending with their digestive and urinary tracts (IBD, renal failure and FLUTD)Taigamoon Cattery, does not allow kibble to be fed to our Siberians.

EXACTLY HOW DIET AFFECTS YOUR CAT.

Jackson chats about all the ways you would actually see a change in your cat if you switched her off of dry food. What exactly makes dry food so bad anyway? The answers might just change your mind about this debate.

WHAT WE FEED OUR CATS AND KITTENS.

Here is an very easy recipe for you to begin. The supplement can be ordered on the web and the meat can be bought when you are doing your own grocery shopping! No extra trips to the pet store are needed. No guess work is needed. Five minutes prep time and you have food for a week or for a month. It can't get any easier.

Basic Recipe:

2 lbs ground turkey

1 cup water

TCfeline (use TCfeline with chicken liver)

You can also use:

Ground or chunked pork

Ground or chunked chicken

Ground or chunked rabbit

Ground or chunked lamb

Ground or chunked beef (use TCfeline with beef liver)

Combine water and TCfeline powder.

Mix into the ground turkey.

Refrigerate / Freeze immediately.

Depending on your cat, this will yield up to a week's worth of food.

TCFELINE can be ordered online through Amazon.com and The Total Cat Store

We feed this premix Better In The Raw For Cats alternatively with TCFeline. Better in the Raw for Cats can be also ordered online through Amazon.com. Both of these sources are readily available online, delivered to your door. 5 min. prep time, add your own raw meat of choice.

All of our kittens go home with TCFeline with chicken liver added. All you need is ground meat.

Below you see a recipe being made from scratch, instead of the more convenient prepackaged supplement mentioned above.
Either is a fine choice. Both methods allow you to add your own meat of choice. Both are more wholesome than commercially prepared, processed, heated, packaged foods. I have used nothing but these for the past years with superb results. There are numerous websites with alternative recipes for a balanced feline food. Please visit the links provided for more information.

If you are interested in making Raw Meat cat food for your Siberian, there are two major expenses: 1) Freezer  2) Electric Meat Grinder. The reason you need to grind the meat yourself, is to minimize dangerous bacteria. Pre-ground meat may have significant amounts of bad bacteria. When you buy larger pieces of meat, wash and then grind it yourself, you minimize the amount of bad bacteria. We recommend whole, human grade turkey thigh meat. Remember, pre-ground meat is intended to be cooked to kill bad bacteria. We invested in a commercial grinder Weston NEW Pro Series #22 Stainless Steel Meat Grinder & Sausage Stuffer - 1.5 HP, Model 10-2201-W.

Homemade Recipe:

2 egg yolks (organic)
2000 mg salmon oil, alternate with anchovy, sardine oil
4 oz liver
1/2 tsp. light salt
2,000 mg taurine
400 IU Vitamin E
2 TBSP Bone Meal
50 mg Vitamin B
2 tbs. psyllium (optional)
1 tbsp. gelatin (optional)
L-Lysine (optional)
1/2 to 3/4 cup of water
puree the above ingredients.
pour into meat and mix well.
2 pounds of meat (chopped or ground depending upon your cat's preference)

We understand that you may not have the time or inclination to make your own cat food.

SOME CAUTION MEASURES WHEN HANDLING MEAT.

One of the most important things you can do to keep your pets, your family, and yourself safe from foodborne illness is to wash your hands:

  • Before and after handling pet foods and treats, wash your hands for 20 seconds with hot running water and soap.

  • Do not feed your pet on the kitchen counter tops

  • Keep raw food separate from other food. (In a closed Tupperware container)

  • Immediately cover and refrigerate what your pet doesn’t eat, or throw the leftovers out safely.

  • Because infants and children are especially susceptible to foodborne illness, keep them away from areas where you feed your pets. Never allow them to touch or eat pet food.

  • Only thaw meat in the fridge, not at room temperature. Thawing it in the fridge will prevent a proliferation of bacteria.

TAIGAMOON GRAIN-FREE CANS - TREATS - SUPPLEMENTS SAFE LIST.

The following list consists of all of the safe cat foods that I feed my cats and kittens. To me, safe means that they do not contain any bad ingredients or carcinogens.(e.g., carrageenan, canola oil, by product meal, etc.), no gluten, artificial colors, preservatives, no corn, wheat soy or meat by-products and are all grain free.

A cat’s normal prey contains approximately 70 – 75 percent water. Canned foods therefore more closely approximate the natural diet of the cat and are better suited to meet the cat’s water needs.” Lisa A. Pierson, DVM All canned foods contain an appropriate (high) amount of water which is critical for urinary tract health.

Eating a variety of foods – words to the wise also applies to your cat’s protein sources as well. Beware of feeding too much fish because ocean fish may be contaminated with mercury, and it can deplete your cat’s thiamin levels. If feeding commercial canned food, shop and offer your Siberian different brands and flavors. Try to identify three different canned foods that your cat enjoys and rotate through them. We also recommend mixing some additional filtered / spring water into the canned cat food so that it resembles a thick stew.

These foods can be purchased on-line (www.chewy.com - www.petfooddirect.com- www.amazon.com) or at a high end pet food store.
